03. Review

The Head Speed Pro 2025 seems to us to be a paddle very well suited for the offensive right-handed player who wants to build the point with ball weight and finish with power. It operates in that intermediate-advanced territory where more than just comfort is required, and here it responds with a very lively ball exit and a clearly explosive feel. It also fits well within its segment price-wise, as its retail price is below other options that start higher. If we are looking for power in flat shots without going for outrageous figures, this version makes a lot of sense.

First Impressions with the Head Speed Pro 2025

The first thing we noticed when stepping onto the court was a well-achieved mix of power and comfort. The tear-shaped design, the hybrid faces of fiberglass and carbon, and the Power Foam give it a medium feel with a very marked ball exit, one of those that feels fast from the first rally. It is neither a soft paddle nor a dry-feeling board; it stays in a very usable intermediate point for accelerating without feeling abrupt. In that sense, it transmits a very direct response when we hit the ball hard.

In hand, it is noticeable that it is not overly light: we are talking about 368 grams and a balance of 27.2 cm, so the feeling is of a model with some weight at the top. Still, what surprised us the most is that it does not become clumsy on the court and is easier to maneuver than its specifications might suggest. We wouldn’t place it among the most maneuverable on the market, but neither among those that tire the arm after a while. In fact, during the sessions, it left us with a quite pleasant feeling of fatigue.

Another point that adds a lot is the grip. The Soft Butt Cap is among the most comfortable grips we have tested within this paddle profile, and that is noticeable both when preparing quickly and when playing for longer periods. The construction also conveys a good level: carbon frame, matte finish, and integrated protector, all with a general feeling of a well-finished product. It is a Head with a serious presentation and a performance on the court that is quite consistent with what it promises.

Head Speed Pro 2025 from the Back of the Court

When we had to defend, the Speed Pro 2025 helped us much more than we expected for being a paddle with an offensive vocation. On low balls, those where you have to lower your arm a lot just to stay in the point, the ball exit appears and gives us that extra to get the ball over to the other side without suffering too much. The combination of Power Foam and hybrid faces makes the ball come out easily, and the Dump Plus system supports well in that type of defensive shot. We did not feel a lazy paddle at the back, which at this weight is already good news.

We also liked that the medium to heavy balance does not penalize as much as it might seem in defensive situations. You can feel the weight, yes, but not to the point of arriving late or feeling the head of the paddle completely out of control. At the back of the court, it moves with more ease than we expected, allowing us to handle uncomfortable balls with some naturalness. There, the Head performs well when the point gets messy and survival is necessary.

Where we did see the clearest drawback is in poorly hit aggressive shots or when we want to push hard and the ball does not come in completely clean. In those actions, the face feels somewhat smooth and the ball can escape more than it should, a sensation that appears especially when we are looking for an incisive shot with little margin or want to load the ball with spin from the back. It is not a paddle particularly tolerant of off-center hits, and that is something to keep in mind if we tend to play very close to the limit. From the back, it helps us defend, but when we force the pace without hitting the shot well, its sweet spot does not forgive too much.

Head Speed Pro 2025 at the Net

At the net, the feeling changes a bit: when we volley aggressively, the ball sometimes goes away because there is a lack of grip on the face. Without a rough texture and with the faces smoother due to the Dump Plus, we do not find that extra bite that helps hold the ball better on a cut volley or a quick shot after a serve. It remains a paddle with power up front, but in fine control and aggressive shots with little margin, it left us with less confidence than we expected. If we want to improve that point, the Head Spin strips could be an interesting solution to gain a bit more grip.

That does not take away from the fact that it has ball weight up front and that the exit is lively, but here the difference lies in how it retains the ball at contact. On closing or acceleration volleys, if we hit cleanly, it responds well; if we come in a bit forced, the smooth face is noticeable. For that reason, we see it as more comfortable for those who prioritize a firm and direct volley than for those who base their net game on a lot of touch or spin. It is not its most rounded area, although it does not sink either.

Head Speed Pro 2025 on the Smash

Here it definitely shows its best version. The Power Foam, the hybrid faces, and that balance with some weight at the top make the energy transfer very good on flat shots, and the smashes come out really powerful. When we set up the smash well and look to finish from above, the Speed Pro 2025 responds with a lot of explosiveness and a very clear feeling of an offensive paddle. If our game involves punishing the flat ball and seeking definition, this Head fits very well.

Power and Control of the Head Speed Pro 2025

The relationship between power and control is quite well resolved, although with an evident inclination towards the former. The ball exit is high, the medium feel helps to accelerate easily, and on flat shots, it feels particularly solid thanks to the Power Foam and the mix of carbon with fiberglass. The overall control is not bad because the medium balance keeps the paddle reasonably manageable. However, when we increase the speed a lot at the net and look for aggressive shots, the lack of grip on the face takes away precision, and that is where its limit is noticeable.

Sweet Spot of the Head Speed Pro 2025

When we compare it naturally with the Head Speed Pro 2023, the overall sensations are very similar, and that also helps to put this version in context. The sweet spot did not seem particularly forgiving on off-center hits, especially on aggressive volleys where the ball can come out less controlled than desired. If we are looking for a paddle that forgives a lot outside the center, there are friendlier options here. If we like this mold and want to save, the 2023 remains a very serious alternative.

Manageability and Comfort of the Head Speed Pro 2025

The feeling of weight exists from the beginning, as its 368 g and the balance of 27.2 cm place it in a range that requires a minimum of adaptation. Still, it did not seem like a tiring paddle nor one of those that ends up straining the arm after half an hour. It moves well in all areas of the court, and although maneuverability is not its strong point, it maintains a fairly balanced performance for its weight. There, the overall design is better resolved than it seems on paper.

What clearly stands out is the comfort of the grip. The Soft Butt Cap makes the grip very pleasant and gives the paddle a level of comfort that is greatly appreciated in real play. That part, along with the medium feel and good ball exit, helps make the overall experience more pleasant than its offensive profile might suggest. It is not an ultra-fast paddle in hand, but it is a paddle that allows for easy play without punishing.

Quality/Price of the Head Speed Pro 2025

Its official retail price is €280, although at the time of writing this review, we found it for €212.8 in specialized stores. This places it in a very competitive range for a paddle of intermediate to advanced level with a carbon frame, hybrid faces, Power Foam, matte finish, and a high-quality grip. Compared to other brands that start from €300 or even more, we see a fairly well-placed proposal here. And as is almost always the case in padel, as the season progresses or the next version approaches, it is normal for the price to drop even further; that is why last year’s models, like the Speed Pro 2023, often become one of the smartest purchases on the market.

Who is the Head Speed Pro 2025 for?

We see it very clearly for offensive right-handed players who want to build the point with initiative and finish with powerful flat shots. It also fits well at intermediate and advanced levels that value an explosive ball exit and a paddle with ball weight at the top. If our padel relies on acceleration, flat smashes, and a firm yet comfortable feel, this version makes a lot of sense within the Head range.

Pros and Cons of the Head Speed Pro 2025

  • Great power and explosive ball exit.
  • Very comfortable grip thanks to the Soft Butt Cap.
  • Good level construction with hybrid materials and carbon frame.
  • Competitive price compared to other more expensive brands.
  • Does not tire the arm despite its weight and balance.
  • Very effective on flat shots and powerful smashes.
  • Lack of grip on the face and the ball can escape on aggressive volleys.
  • No rough texture, which limits control on spin shots.
  • Maneuverability is not its strongest point.
  • Tolerates off-center hits poorly.

The Head Speed Pro 2025 seems to us to be a paddle very well oriented for those who want power, ball exit, and comfort in a serious format but still reasonably priced. It has a clear area for improvement in grip on the face and tolerance on off-center hits, but if our game thrives on flat shots and taking the initiative, it is a very solid option. And if we want to spend less without straying too far from these sensations, the Speed Pro 2023 remains a purchase with a lot of sense.
