Padel Racket Dampeners (ShockOut): Do They Really Work?
22 de May de 2024 | Updated 17 de April de 2026
Padel, one of the most popular racket sports today, has evolved exponentially in recent years, incorporating various innovations to enhance player performance and comfort. One such innovation is the padel racket dampener, an accessory that promises to reduce the vibrations generated when hitting the ball, supposedly improving game control and preventing injuries, something that if you are a padel player, you know is essential.
But do they really deliver what they promise? We are going to thoroughly test their effectiveness, examining both technical aspects and practical experiences from players of different levels. Our goal is to provide you with a clear and objective view to help you decide if incorporating this accessory into your padel gear is a good idea.
What is a dampener
They are small cylinders generally made of rubber or silicone called “Dampeners” that are placed inside the holes of the racket to reduce the vibrations generated when hitting the ball.
Vibrations can be harmful, as they not only affect the accuracy of the shot but can also cause long-term injuries, such as the dreaded epicondylitis. This is where the dampener (ShockOut) comes into play, acting as a shock absorber that minimizes the transmission of these vibrations to the arm.
What they are for and Benefits
- Vibration Reduction: The main function of a dampener is to decrease the vibrations that occur when the ball impacts the racket.
- Greater Control: they can also help you have greater control over the racket.
- Comfort: if you are a player who spends many hours on the court, you will notice a reduction in arm and wrist fatigue, allowing you to enjoy the game more.
- Racket Protection: although not its main function, some players believe that dampeners can help prolong the lifespan of the racket by reducing the impact on its structure.
- Customization: they offer an opportunity to customize your equipment and thus slightly change the balance based on your preferences, whether it be for your playing style and/or the weather conditions you find yourself in.
How to place dampeners on a racket
Where to place them
- Greater control and lower balance: this option is not usually the most common since many of you always seek that extra touch of explosiveness, and it makes the racket somewhat harder, more solid, which usually does not align with those players with a more defensive style. In this case, we would place the cylinders at the ends of the last row of holes.
- Greater power: in this case, we will opt for the ends of the first row, consequently increasing hardness and raising the balance.
- Seeking balance: in this case, it would be at the ends of the central line, which will noticeably reduce stability in those shots where you don’t hit as centered.
- Internal placement: since the ball never touches the cylinder, we can try placing them in central impact areas as there may be certain advantages, as this allows for trial and error, it’s best to try it without any fear.
Installation
Once you have identified the area of the racket where you want to place them, you just need to press them lightly until they are under the fiber without protruding from the outside, placing two units per hole by inserting them from both sides of the racket. To change the distribution, you simply have to remove them with the hook that usually comes with the dampeners and then place them in the holes you prefer.

Maintenance
Periodically check the condition of the dampener. Over time, it can wear out and lose effectiveness, so it is advisable to replace it when necessary.
Padel racket dampeners have generated divided opinions among players and experts. While some claim that these devices can reduce vibrations and improve comfort while playing, others argue that their impact is minimal and that choosing a good racket and proper technique are more decisive.
The truth is that, although dampeners can offer some help, they are not a miraculous solution. If you suffer from arm or elbow discomfort, it is crucial to review other factors such as the weight and balance of your racket, as well as your playing technique. Remember that padel is a sport that should be enjoyed. If a dampener provides you with greater comfort and confidence, go for it! The key is to keep an open mind and try different options until you find what best suits you. See you on the court!
