18 de May de 2024 | Updated 17 de April de 2026

After more than 10 years in the world of padel, we can affirm that there is no universal ideal weight. The important thing is to find the right weight for each player according to their characteristics and playing style.

In this article, we will explore the sensations produced by heavy and light rackets. We will offer you a guide to help you decide which weight is most appropriate for you.

Remember, every player is unique and what works for one may not be the best for another. Let’s discover together how to choose the perfect racket for your game!

Weight Table – Level&Playing Style

The weight of your padel racket should be carefully chosen according to your level, playing style, and physical condition. Here we offer you a quick guide to help you make the best decision.

Level / Playing StyleRecommended Weight
Beginner Players / Defensive Play360 grams
Intermediate Players / Versatile Play365-370 grams
Advanced Players / Offensive Play370-385 grams

How It Affects and Its Importance

The weight of your padel racket directly influences your performance and health. Let’s break down how each factor is affected by the racket’s weight:

Maneuverability and Power

  • An appropriate weight will allow you to handle the racket with greater precision or to hit with the desired power.
  • The more mass your racket has, the stronger hits you can achieve.
  • Lighter weights allow for faster movements.

Balance

  • The weight affects the balance of the racket, determining whether you will feel more control or power.
  • A racket heavy in the head will give you more power, but it can cause quicker fatigue.
  • A weight shifted towards the handle offers more control, ideal for technical players and also beginners seeking precision in their shots.

Relation to Climate

  • In humid areas, a heavier weight helps to better handle heavy and wet balls, reducing the effort needed as the bounce will decrease.
  • At high altitudes, where balls are faster and lighter, a lighter weight can be beneficial to maintain control.

Weight Difference Between Men and Women

  • Generally, women feel more comfortable with rackets between 350 and 360 grams.
  • Rackets for men will range between 360 and 385 grams.
  • Children, depending on their level of play and physical build, should use rackets between 280 and 340 grams. An inappropriate weight and grip can cause future injuries.

Weight & Balance

The balance and weight in a padel racket always go hand in hand and affect your performance and comfort on the court. A well-chosen weight improves power and control in each shot, while an appropriate balance helps prevent injuries.

This is how the balance of a racket varies according to its weight distribution:

Weight in the Head

  • If the weight is shifted towards the head of the racket, you will gain power.
  • This type of balance is ideal for players seeking stronger hits, but it can cause wrist and arm fatigue after long matches.

Weight in the Handle

  • A balance towards the handle provides more control and maneuverability.
  • It’s perfect for technical players who prefer precision over power, although it may require more effort in power shots like the smash.

Intermediate Weight

  • An intermediate balance offers a balance between control and power.
  • It’s ideal for versatile players seeking versatility in their game.

You know, a well-balanced racket reduces the risk of injuries, such as epicondylitis, by better distributing the effort during shots. For more experienced players, you should decide whether you want to complement or reinforce your strengths, looking for a racket that complements you or on the other hand, also helps you reinforce those areas where you are weaker.

For example, if you are a control player where you use the tray a lot and place it where you want but hitting is not your strong point, you have two options, you reinforce yourself by looking for a racket that further enhances this skill, opting for a more rounded racket with a wide sweet spot and a balance leaning more towards the hand or you go for a diamond-type racket, more head-heavy, which precisely enhances shots above the head.

Physical Condition and Racket Weight

If you have good muscle strength in your arm and wrist, you can handle heavier rackets, which will give you more power in your shots. However, if you suffer from injuries or have less strength, a lighter racket will be more suitable to avoid overloads and strains.

For players with previous injuries, such as tendinitis or epicondylitis, it is crucial to opt for a weight that does not worsen the condition. A racket that is too heavy can increase the risk of injuries, while one that is too light may require more effort to control the ball.

TIP: For normal conditions, we can use this rule: Racket weight = 295 + our weight. So if we weigh 70 kilos, we can easily handle a 365 gr racket.

It is important to evaluate your endurance and physical capacity before choosing the weight of your racket. A racket well adapted to your physical condition not only improves your performance on the court but also allows you to play without pain and enjoy the game more.

Bonus: How to Customize Weight

If we are struggling to move the ball with power or want to modify the weight, we have several options:

  1. Lead or tungsten strips: this is a metal of high density and hardness that we can place on our racket thanks to its adhesive. They usually come in packages of 10g divided into 4 strips of 2.5g. Our recommendation is to add them gradually so that it is easier for you to find your ideal weight. You can add these strips either on the upper frame of the racket, making it more head-heavy, or on the heart, where it will lower the balance a bit.
  2. Add several overgrips: each overgrip is about 7g, so it also modifies the weight and makes the balance lean more towards the handle, this will also affect the grip, so you should also take it into account.
