Class, power, and a winning mentality. Gemma Triay Pons is one of those players who make a difference on any court. Her name has been associated with the elite of women’s padel for years, and it’s no coincidence: she combines talent, physicality, tactical insight, and an incredible ability to compete at the highest level.

Who She Is

Born in Alaior (Menorca) on June 28, 1992, Gemma Triay took her first sporting steps in tennis, a foundation that is still reflected today in the fluidity of her strokes and the technical precision with which she executes each action. She is a right-handed player, stands 1.73 m tall, and plays in the backhand position, where she has built a spectacular career.

Her career has led her to become an absolute reference in the circuit. She was the world number 1 for three consecutive seasons: in 2020 with Lucía Sainz and in 2021 and 2022 with Alejandra Salazar. This consistency at the top speaks of a player capable of reinventing herself, adapting to different partners, and continuing to be decisive year after year.

Currently, as of April 2025, she holds the 3rd position in the FIP ranking and forms the number 2 pair in the circuit alongside Argentine Delfina Brea. Additionally, many fans know her by a nickname that fits her perfectly: “GemMagnificent”.

Playing Style

Gemma Triay stands out for a complete, offensive, and very elegant padel. From the backhand, she has the ability to dominate the point with a very rare combination: power, control, and tactical insight. She not only hits well; she knows when to accelerate, when to hold, and when to punish.

One of her great trademarks is the smash. She has more than enough power to bring the ball back or even hit it out of the court when she finds the opportunity. Added to this is a very high-level volley, especially the backhand, with which she applies a lot of pressure near the net. Her reach also allows her to cover a lot of space and be very aggressive when she steps into offensive positions.

But what elevates her game beyond the purely physical is her tactical intelligence. Gemma interprets matches very well, detects opponents’ weaknesses, and knows how to take control in important moments. She is a player with great mental solidity, experience, authority, and a leader’s spirit on the court.
